A. Martin (Marty) Shenk, 86, passed away in Gettysburg on July 12, 2025.

Born July 14, 1938, in the Biglerville area to Coffman and Retta (Boyer) Shenk, Marty was raised Mennonite and helped his parents at the family's poultry processing plant as a child and youth.

Marty graduated from Biglerville High School and then served as a volunteer with Mennonite Central Committee in Akron, PA where he met his wife, Rosemary Miller. Marty and Rosemary married in 1961 and settled in the Biglerville area. They were happily married for over 61 years until Rosemary passed away in September 2022.

Marty worked and volunteered in the local community throughout his life. Marty delivered newspapers for The Gettysburg Times, worked for over 25 years at the Inland Container Corporation in Biglerville and, in his later years, for Kennies' Market, delivering groceries to shut-ins and elderly residents throughout the Biglerville area. He served as a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels and as a Red Cross Blood Drive volunteer into his 80s. He also volunteered hundreds of hours at Wellspan Hospital in Gettysburg.

Church life and service were central to Marty and Rosemary's life, and they both provided service at Bethel Mennonite Church, where Marty was an original member. Marty and Rosemary also volunteered at Mennonite Church-affiliated Ten Thousand Villages stores. They were active for many years in the Mennonite Church's Atlantic Coast Conference. Trips to Church Conferences – including far-flung World Conference Meetings, were a special treat for Marty and Rosemary. They also hosted traveler-guests from around the world in their home as part of the "Mennonite Your Way" travel service.

Marty had a dedicated and loving family life. He is survived by sons, Jim (Beth) and Jon (Clemencia), and daughter Joy (Mike), three grandchildren, two step grandchildren, and two step great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Charles Shenk (Liz), sister-in-law Corinne Swartzendruber, and many loving nieces and nephews. His brother Stanley Shenk predeceased him in life.

A Memorial Service will be held at Bethel Mennonite Church on Sunday, August 10 at 3:00 p.m., with meal and fellowship time to follow, 2335 Biglerville Road, Gettysburg.
