John William Shepard

John William Shepard, 80, of Winchester, VA passed away on March 24, 2025. He was born in Pennsylvania on January 16, 1945 to the late John Abel Shepard and Jennie Viola (MacBeth) Shepard.
John was a 1962 graduate of Biglerville High School, where he was active in chorus and band. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves. John earned an associates degree from Harrisburg Area Community College before eventually graduating from Pennsylvania State University with a degree in industrial engineering. He worked in that field for a number of years in Pennsylvania, New York, and Virginia, most recently at O'Sullivan Films in Winchester.
John enjoyed singing and participated in barbershop quartets. He liked to bake and often made fruitcakes for family and friends at Christmas. When he was in better health, John attended First United Methodist Church in Winchester.
He is survived by sons Bryon Shepard of Winchester, VA and Scott Shepard (wife, Heather) of Carlisle, PA, daughter Lisa Orris (husband, Jeffrey) of Carlisle, PA, and grandchildren Cassidy and William Shepard, and Benjamin, Zachary, and Jonathan Orris. He is also survived by sister-in-law Mary Jo Snyder of Olean, NY, stepson Jeffrey Livingston (wife, Tiana) of Allegany, NY, and their children Tatymn Lindell, Theryn Lindell, and Morgyn Livingston. John was predeceased by his wife, Patricia, who passed away in 2012.
Friends and family may gather to remember John and celebrate his life on Saturday, April 12, 2025 from 2-4 pm at Jones Funeral Home in Winchester. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John's name to the American Stroke Association (stroke.org).
