Rhinebeck – Alan H. Friedman, 86, passed away on Friday March 21, 2025 after a brief stay at the Eleanor Nursing Home in Hyde Park.
Born on June 25, 1938, in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Marcus and Evelyn (Gross) Friedman.
Alan was a graduate of Dartmouth College. He received a law degree from NYU School of Law. He first practiced law privately with his father in Manhattan and subsequently was General Counsel for Robert Hall and Senior Attorney for JCP Realty. When JCP moved to Texas, he and his wife Joan chose to stay in New York and owned and operated A Choice Nanny placement service for 25 years.
He and Joan were married for 43 years, lived on the Upper West Side, and retired in Rhinebeck.
Alan loved the Brooklyn Dodgers and was an enthusiastic Mets fan. A lover of all types of music, in his 70's, he took up the ukulele.
He is survived by his wife Joan and son Andy and three grandchildren - Lucian, Julian and Leila, as well as his niece, nephews, and many cousins, all of whom he adored.
He was predeceased by his beloved sister Barbara Stolowitz.
A Graveside Service will be held at the Natural Burial Grounds of the Rhinebeck Cemetery on March 26, 2025, at 11am, 16 Mill Rd, Rhinebeck, NY 12572.
Memorial donations in honor of Alan may be made to Caring Kind or any organization of your choosing.
