Alan J. Kosh, 77, of Scranton, formerly of Sarasota, Fla., died Thursday morning at Hospice of the Sacred Heart after a brief illness. His husband and partner of over fifty years, Chester L. Georgetti, preceded him in death. Born in Scranton, he was a son of the late Jacob and Ann Chabal Kosh. A member of St. Peter's Cathedral and formerly Incarnation Catholic Church in Sarasota, he was active in parish life, serving as an usher and greeter.

A 1965 graduate of West Scranton High School, Alan earned his B.S. from the University of Scranton and a Masters in Communications from Syracuse University. Prior to retirement he worked for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, serving as personnel director for the Department of Public Welfare, the Bureau of State General Hospitals, as well as a licensing representative for the Bureau of Personal Care and Assisted Living Residences.

Alan enjoyed traveling with Chester throughout the country and abroad, and especially loved Italy. After spending a few winters in Florida, they eventually relocated to Sarasota and made many new friends. Following the death of Chester in 2022 Alan returned to Scranton to be closer to family. Alan was a gentle and kind man whose smile lit up the room. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by a sister, Ann Caramanno and husband Robert (Perkasie, PA); a sister in-law Jean Kosh (Bloomsburg); niece Kelly Ann Caramanno, and nephew Rob Caramanno and wife Karen, and great-nieces and -nephews. He also leaves behind his in-laws and extended family, especially Dom and Linda Georgetti, Marcella Georgetti, Mary Joan Gibbs, and their respective families, as well as many dear friends in Scranton and Florida.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Michael.

In accordance with his wishes he has been cremated. The funeral will be Friday with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Divine Mercy Parish at St. Joseph's Church, 312 Davis St., celebrated by Rev. Paul A. McDonnell, O.S.J., pastor. Family and friends may pay their respects at the church one hour prior to mass, from 9-10 a.m. Interment, St. Joseph's Cemetery, Minooka.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
