Albert Wesley Brinkley Sr.

DURHAM ~ Albert Wesley Brinkley Sr., 89, passed away on Friday, August 15, 2025 in one of his favorite places; watching the sun come up on his front porch. He was born in Durham, the son of the late Marvin Brinkley and Lucille Cooley Brinkley. In addition to his parents, Mr. Brinkley is also predeceased by his son, Albert Wesley Brinkley Jr.; daughter, Deborah Annette Brinkley; brothers, Grover Brinkley, Harold Brinkley, Marvin Brinkley; sister, Peggy Goodwin; brother, Ray Brinkley

Albert Wesley Brinkley Sr. or better known as Bull was a proud Husband, Grandaddy, Great Grandaddy and friend to many. He was a jack of all trades from serving 4 years in the United States Army, Chapel Hill Police Department, Chapel Hill Fire Department, Service station owner, Chapel Hill stars semi-pro baseball team owner, little league coach but his proudest title of them all was being Grandaddy. During his 30 years of owning Eastgate Gulf he became what can only be described as a die-hard Tarheel, from driving the bus for the baseball and basketball team to holding Dean Smith's Cigarettes at the games. Above all, he leaves behind a family who will cherish his memories for generations.

Mr. Brinkley is survived by his wife of 67 years, Betsy Brinkley; daughter, Betsy Brinkley Jimerson (Roy); grandchildren, Charles Joseph Stone (Kelly), Virginia Nicole Stone, Jessica Gray Britton (Shane), Loy Wayne Stone (Brooke), Christian Nathaniel Jimerson, Brandon Lee Brinkley (Brook), Barbara Ann Johnson (J.R.), Albert Wesley Cawthorn (Alisha), Gloria Jean Bagley; great-grandchildren, Hunter Britton, Jax Stone, Alayah Brinkley, Isabella Brinkley, Chase Faircloth, Maggie Johnson, Jayden Johnson, Amanda Johnson, Olivia Cawthorn, Noah Bagley, Nazar Bagley, Nayzell Matte, Maria Joy Stone, Colton Johnson and Heaven Matte.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, August 23rd at Mt. Morah Baptist Church. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00pm to 2:00 pm at the church. Burial will follow the services in the church cemetery.
