Albert (“Al”) Mengarelli passed away peacefully just a few weeks before his 99th birthday, at St. Paul Elder Services in Kaukauna, Wisconsin.
Al was born in Chicago, Illinois. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946, stationed in Wisconsin, Oklahoma, and California. Following his service, he earned a degree in Economics from Lawrence University in 1948.
That same year, Al married Dorothy Mielke of Appleton. Together they made their home in Kaukauna, where Al worked as business manager at Gustman Chevrolet from 1949 until his retirement in 1992, continuing to assist part-time until 2019.
A lifelong sports fan, Al was devoted to the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers. He was also an avid golfer, a member of Fox Valley Golf Club from 1961 to 2019, and active with the Elks Lodge from 1953 to 2022. He and Dorothy cherished family trips to Wheeler Lake and Two Rivers, and winter getaways in Naples, Florida.
Al was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy; his parents, Albert O. and Dora L. (Ruffini) Mengarelli; and his brothers Richard, Anthony, and James Mengarelli.
He is survived by his daughters Ann (Tom) Heiting of Punta Gorda, Florida, and Chris (Dale Elliott) Mengarelli of San Jose, California; and his grandson Jarrett (Jessica) Heiting of Sarasota, Florida.
Al’s family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at St. Paul Elder Services in Kaukauna for their care during the years Al resided there, and to St. Paul Elder Services Hospice for their kindness and comfort in his final days.
In keeping with Al’s wishes, no memorial service will be held. Online condolences may be shared at wichmannfuneralhomes.com.
