Whitakers - Albert Bruce Pruitt, 82, passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro NC. Born on May 14, 1943, in Yalobusha County, Mississippi, he was the son of the late Reverend William Hoyt Pruitt and Lillie Ruth Bellingrath Pruitt.
Burce graduated from Presbyterian College with a BS degree in 1965. He earned a PhD in physics from Clemson University. He was a systems engineer with work at Clemson University, nuclear plants in Kansas and North Carolina, and tested diesel engines in North Carolina. Bruce was a proud and active member of the South Carolina Genealogy Society and the Edgecombe County Genealogy Society where he enjoyed preserving his own and others family history and connecting with others who shared his love for genealogy. Bruce also transcribed and published many land surveys and records.
Bruce is survived by his sisters, Caroline Pruitt Hayes and Palmyra Pruitt Moore, his brother, William Hoyt Pruitt, Jr.; nieces, Susan Hayes and Helen Hitchcock, and his nephews, Jim Hayes, Michael Hayes (Laura), and Leland Moore (Jessica).
A graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 2609 US 29, Anderson SC 29621 at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 20, 2025.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, NC 27534; Central Presbyterian Church, 1404 Blvd., Anderson SC 29621 or Presbyterian College, 503 South Bend Street, Clinton SC 29325.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
