Albert William Thompson was born on September 24, 1944 in Philadelphia to Albert and Viola Thompson. Albert attended Kenderton Elementary School and Roosevelt Junior High. He graduated from Simon Gratz High in 1962. Albert studied at RETS Electronic Institute. He served in the U.S. Army from August 1965 to December 1968 where he was part of a truck transportation unit. During his tour of duty, he was stationed in Italy where he learned to speak Italian. He was known to playfully flaunt his language skills in front of family and friends.
Albert grew up in North Philadelphia where he met many of his friends and some who became life long friends. He was a Sales Consultant with Silo's for 18 years where he was awarded salesmen of the year. Albert also sold furniture at Seaman's Furniture and at The Dump. He had the gift of gab, and was always knowledgeable about the inventory he sold.
Albert was kind hearted and had a good sense of humor. He was the life of the party. He loved to party and socialize. You could always count on Albert to attend holiday dinners and special events.
Albert recently went on a cruise on Royal Caribbean's largest ship "The Icon of the Seas" which he really enjoyed.
Albert loved spending time with family and friends, talking about sports and watching the Phillies, Eagles, and Sixers games. Albert was an avid softball player and played in bar leagues in North Philadelphia. He was known for his color coordinated outfits and fashionable hats.
Albert leaves behind his nephew Norman the III, niece in-law Kamika, great nephews, Norman the IV and Christian, great great nephews, Chase and Norman the 5th, great great nieces, Nariah, Jazmyne and Maya, cousins and a host of friends.
Family and friends are invited to Albert's Life Celebration on Friday, September 27, 2024, at 11:00AM, at the John F. Givnish Life Celebration Home, 10975 Academy Road, Philadelphia, PA, 19154. Interment will be private.
