Alden "Snook" Bryan
1955-2025
Alden "Snook" Bryan, 69, of Catlettsburg, Kentucky, went to be with his Lord on August 29, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born on November 29, 1955, in Buchanan, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Mary Alice Sperry Bryan and John Thomas Bryan.
The youngest of seven children, he grew up in a large, close-knit family alongside his siblings Doris "Dottie" Bryan McFarland, Ronald Bryan (Ann), John Thomas "JT" Bryan Jr., Russell Bryan (Bonnie), Phillip "Pike" Bryan (Clara Sue), and Pamela "Pam" Bryan Griffith (Roger). His mother affectionately called him "Snookums" as a boy, and the nickname "Snook" stayed with him for life.
A proud graduate of Boyd County High School, Class of 1973, Snook was a starter on the legendary basketball team that brought home the school's first-ever 16th Region Championship and became the first to advance to the state tournament. Off the court, his passion for music led him to tour the country with the Mike Miller Band, where he shared the stage with country music legends like Hank Williams Jr., George Strait, Asleep at the Wheel, Moe Bandy, and Joe Stampley, among others.
Snook spent more than 40 years as an Ironworker with Local 769, leaving his mark on projects across the county, state, and country. With the help of his brothers, he also built his own family home from the ground up- it was a place that became a true symbol of his craftsmanship, devotion, and love.
He was a proud member of Rush Lodge 715, El Hasa Shriners, Elks Lodge 350, and Moose Lodge 892. He was also a devoted member of Beech Street Christian Church, where he used his skills to bless others through projects like building blessing boxes and offering his talents wherever they were needed.
Outside of work and service, Snook lived life to the fullest. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and was a die-hard University of Kentucky Wildcats fan, holding football season tickets for many years and cheering on basketball at Rupp Arena. Known as a fixer, builder, and perfectionist, he poured his heart into every project, big or small.
Snook is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sheryl "Sheri" DeLancey Bryan; daughters Lindsay Bryan Hale (Eric) of Georgetown, Kentucky, and Melanie Bryan Bowe (Landon) of Robinson, Illinois; six grandchildren, who were the center of his world: Aiden Pemberton, Addison Hale, Avery Hale, Dallas Bowe, Ace Hale, and Dylan Bowe; and his beloved dog, Elsie. He is also survived by siblings Ronald, Russell, and Phillip, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and countless friends.
Although flowers are appreciated, the family asks that donations be made in honor of his grandson, Ace, to Cultivate Behavioral Health & Education at 1272 Bond Street Suite 100, Naperville, Il 60563, a center that has provided care and support to him and his family and was a cause close to Snook's heart.
Snook's life was one filled with great stories of love, laughter, music, basketball, motorcycles, ironwork, faith, and family. His legacy will live on through the lives he touched, the work of his hands, and the family he adored.
A funeral service to honor the life of Snook will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2025, beginning at 1pm at Beech Street Christian Church, located at 1672 Beech Street, Ashland KY, with Pastor Keith Sergent officiating. Friends and family may gather to pay their respects prior to the service at the church beginning at 12pm. A visitation will also be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at Neal Funeral Home, located at 2409 Center Street, Catlettsburg, KY, beginning at 5pm. Honors will be provided by the Rush Lodge 715 and others begining at 7:30 pm
Online Condolences may be sent to the family from our website at kilgorecollierfuneralhome.com or on Facebook at Neal-Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home.
