Alexander James Murdock, 38, of Monroe, N.C. passed away on August 20th, 2025, surrounded by his family at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
Born on December 11th, 1986, in Charlotte, Alex was the son of Jamie Murdock and the late Gary Murdock. He is also survived by his brother Justin Murdock, wife Ashley and their two children Elizabeth and Stella; brother Ryan Murdock, wife Megan and their two children Liam and Lyza Kate; and sister Kelly Evans and her two children Nathaniel and Savannah.
A 2005 Weddington High School graduate, Alex excelled on the basketball court, earning all-conference and all-county honors as a standout for the Warriors. He also had a passion for music and enjoyed all types of genres. His biggest accomplishment was arguably earning his black belt in Tae Kwon Do at the age of 10. He went on to compete at the Junior Olympics in New Orleans, bringing home a silver and bronze medal. A member at Siler Presbyterian Church, Alex was part of the youth group and attended a mission trip as a teenager.
A service to celebrate Alex’s life will be held at 3:00PM on Saturday, Aug. 23rd, 2025 at Siler Presbyterian Church, 6301 Weddington Rd, Matthews, NC 28104. Visitation will follow in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for support to be directed to Ground 40, - a local non-profit organization that helps transition men back into the community from homelessness, addiction and incarceration. https://app.clovergive.com/app/giving/clodo-ground40
