Alfred A. Dasso, 87, a lifelong resident of Springfield passed away on March 15, 2024, at Baystate Medical Center. Born on August 17, 1936, he was the son of the late Ernest and Elizabeth (Massetti) Dasso.
Al graduated from Springfield Technical High School, he then went on to Harvard, studies in Trade Union, and was a graduate of Fire Science Studies at STCC. He served in the Navy from 1955-1959 on the USS Forrestal.
Al then began his career as a Springfield Fireman at several stations throughout the city of Springfield. After 28 years, Lt. Dasso retired as a trainer at the Fire Academy.
He married the love of his life M. Judith (Bailey) Dasso on November 25, 1961, they had spent over 62 years together at their home on South Shore Drive.
Al and Judy were longtime volunteers at the Open Pantry serving thousands of meals to people in need, especially during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter.
Al was involved in several organizations; Springfield Unico, where he was Man of The Year, The Italian Cultural Center of Western MA where he received the Serviam Award along with his wife Judy. Al was also a member of Longmeadow Unico.
Al had a strong, loving devotion to his faith and to his church, Our Lady of Mount Carmel. During his retirement, most days he could be found volunteering at the church repairing something, helping with church functions including the Taste of Italy and being an alter server. He loved to go deep sea fishing with his friends.
Al leaves his wife, M. Judith Dasso, sister, Helen Ambrogi of Wilbraham, along with several nieces, nephews, extended members of the Bailey family, and his many friends. Al was predeceased by his brothers, Ernest, William, Robert and Richard, and sisters, Margaret Hutter and Fannie Amedeo.
Visitation will be on Saturday, March 23rd, 9:00 a.m. at Mt. Carmel Church, 123 William Street in Springfield, with a Funeral Liturgy at 10:00 a.m.Entombment will follow at St. Michael the Archangel Mausoleum.
Due to the Lenten observance, please omit flowers.
