Alice Harrington, formerly Alice McLaughlin, nee Farrell, passed to eternal rest Friday, January 10, 2025. She was 88 years old.
Alice was born in Brooklyn, NY. She attended St. Agatha's grammar school and Catherine McCauley High School.
Alice moved to Great Kills in 1963, and was a lifelong parishioner of St. Clare Church. She was employed by New York City Board of Education as a Paraprofessional.
Alice was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Knights of Columbus Columbiettes. She maintained a social network that would impress Mark Zuckerberg.
She is pre-deceased by her husbands, Jack McLaughlin (1974) and James Harrington (2003), her brother Peter Farrell and sister Grace Gillen. She is also pre-deceased by her grandson and sidekick, Devin McQueen.
Alice is survived by her four children, John (Susan) McLaughlin, Jean (Adam) Conanan, Michael (Kim) McLaughlin, and Colleen (Derrick) McQueen, fifteen grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a close, dear extended family.
Alice was the quintessential Irish matriarch, and did it all by herself for over fifty years. Her table was inviting to all, and was a blend of Norman Rockwell and Cirque de Soleil. Her passing takes an irreplaceable force from her vast community of family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at the John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at St. Clare Church located at 110 Nelson Ave Staten Island, New York 10308. Interment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
