Mr. George “Allen” Wilbanks, age 60, of Camden Tennessee died early Friday morning, July 14, 2023, aboard the Norwegian Escape in the Southern Ocean. He was on a cruise with his wife and many newfound friends, having the time of his life.

Allen was born on August 29, 1962, in Santa Ana, California, to the late George Gaston Wilbanks and Sandra Alcorn Dickinson. Allen was a graduate of Camden Central High School, Nashville State Community College, and Bethel University. He was a Math and Special Education Teacher and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of Tennessee Valley Community Church. Allen was a competitive bowler with multiple perfect games and really enjoyed playing golf. He was an excellent cook, who enjoyed watching sports of any kind. He was a fan of Duke Basketball, Tennessee Vol Football, Nashville Predators Hockey, Tennessee Titans and L.A. Rams football, and L.A. Dodger and Angels Baseball. He loved being with his family, talking to everyone, hearing his students’ success stories, playing Xbox, watching movies, and traveling with his “Princess Bride”.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Wilbanks.

He is survived by his wife, Robin Cooper Wilbanks, his children Bryce (Bradey) Wilbanks and Courtney (Josh) Wilbanks; grandchildren Corbin Curtis, Bray Wilbanks, Givanni Allen Merrell, Peyton Wilbanks, and Aria Merrell; his mother, Sandy Alcorn Dickinson, and his two sisters, Denice (Keith) French, and Wanda Wilbanks Ladd, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved in-laws.

Arrangements for Allen Wilbanks will be as follows: Visitation will be on Friday, July 21, 2023 from 6-9 pm and on Saturday, July 22, 2023 from 10-11 am and a Celebration of Life will begin at 11 am with Pastor Gene Walden officiating at Tennessee Valley Community Church In Paris, TN. The church is located at 2500 East Wood Street Paris, TN.

In lieu of flowers, plants, gifts or any take home items, we are asking people to honor Allen's memory with a donation in his name to a charity. A list and contact information with charities is listed below. Thank you for honoring the family's wishes. 

The family has selected the following causes that represent two things dear to Allen's heart, Veterans and Education. Allen was a Veteran and an Educator. please donate in his memory if you choose.

1. Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors offers compassionate care to survivors of military personnel and 24 hour support lines to support all of those grieving a military loss.

2. Nashville State Foundation

The NSCC Foundation offers care and support for students at Nashville State Community College.

Going to college as an adult changed Allen s life and started him on the path to becoming an educator (& also got his wife started in teaching at NSCC). The NSCC Foundation helps students to stay in school by helping with textbooks, transportation, or other student needs. A degree earned by one family member can lift a family out of generations of poverty.
