The family of Alton Curtis announces with heavy hearts that he has gone to be with the Lord on May 26, 2025, just 8 days prior to his 87th birthday. Alton was a brother, husband, father, and most lovingly 'Pop' by his grands and great grands.
He was known as a hard worker and generous friend. Hard work was a way of life, but generosity and true friendship was his character. After retiring from DuPont, he continued to work. His favorite years of employment were spent building and selling homes with his wife, Nita.
Alton loved the Lord and the church. In his final years, he was a member of FBC Covington, but he was ordained a deacon many years prior at Calvary Baptist Church, which he helped construct.
Family was of utmost importance to Alton. As a Christian, he didn't fear death, but hated the idea of being separated from his wife of 66 years and the family he had created.
Alton was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Lucille Curtis, and two brothers, George Curtis and Walker Curtis.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 66 years, Nita Curtis, one son, David Curtis (Evette), and one daughter, Connie Ballard (Keith). He also leaves behind his four grandchildren, who he called his 'bugs': Emily Simmons (Phillip), Jenny Baird (Anthony), Annie Fain (Caleb), and Gracie Ballard. He also leaves behind four great grandchildren: Colton Simmons, Abigail Baird, Brinley Fain, and Banks Fain. He is also survived by three brothers: John Curtis, Elmer Curtis, and Norris Curtis as well as two sisters, Ailene Hartsfield and Ann Berkley.
His faith is now sight, praise to God, and may He receive the glory through his passing.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 29th at 2:00 PM at Maley-Yarbrough Funeral Home, with visitation beginning at 1:00 PM. A committal service will follow at the funeral home. Only the pallbearers will proceed to the burial at RH Munford Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Alton may be sent to Brighton Baptist Church.
