Alva LaDon Tillman passed away peacefully at home Monday, May 5th in the loving care of her niece and nephew Shelly and Blaine Breitenbach. LaDon was born September 20th, 1936 to Ellen and Ernest Gibson. After graduating Slocam Truax High school she married the love her life Arthur Tillman on Christmas Eve 1956. Together they made their home in Rockwood, Michigan where they raised their two sons Kurt and Dean. She was a devoted mother and spent countless hours at the hockey rink with both boys. LaDon and Art were active member of the Elks Lodge in Flat Rock. Some of her happiest days were spent at their lake house in Sturgis, Michigan with various friends and her grandchildren . She loved genealogy, bowling, playing Euchre, and crossword puzzles. After her husband passed she spent many hours with her friend Marcella Begeman sewing and quilting. Friends and family members have been the recipients of her quilts which are a lasting tribute to both her talent and love of her family.
LaDon was preceded in death by her beloved husband Art, her eldest son Kurt, her parents, two brothers Jerry and Jim, sister Mary Ann Davis and her brother and sister in law Dave and Jean Tillman.
She is survived by her son Dean, daughter in law Shirley (Kurt), sister in law Sue Gibson (Vern Miller), grandsons Eric (Carly), Christopher (Hailey), granddaughter Kayla (Justin) Shuler, three great grandsons and many nieces and nephews.
When she was able, LaDon attended Rockwood First Congregational Church and a private internment will be scheduled there at a later date. Memorials in Ladon’s memory may be made to The Alzheimer’s Society.
