Alvin Noel, Sr.
September 27, 1958 - January 9, 2025
Lafayette, La. -- It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alvin Noel, Sr., a beloved father, devoted brother, and loyal friend, who left this world peacefully and surrounded by his loved ones on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at the age of 66. He transitioned to his eternal home at Ochsner University Hospital & Clinics, formerly known as University Medical Center, due to complications related to a heart condition. A memorial service to celebrate Alvin's life will be held on January 24, 2025, at 11 AM at Refugee Temple Ministries, Inc. All those who knew him, whether family or friend, are invited to join in honoring his legacy.
His legacy began on September 27, 1958, when Calvin Noel Sr. and Daisy Harris Noel welcomed their new baby boy into this world. His life was marked by love, dedication, and a steadfast entrepreneurial spirit. In 1976, Alvin married Barbara Clay from Carencro, LA, and welcomed his first son, Alvin Noel Jr., a year later. After about a decade, the couple separated and divorced. Later, he met Monica Porter, and they forged a strong partnership, sharing many years together, and welcoming his second son, Tyler James Porter in 1992. Monica remained a steadfast support for him throughout his life until his passing.
Throughout his life, Alvin worked in a variety of fields, and each role he approached with diligence and pride. After graduating from Cecilia High School, he started his first job, K-Mart, where he was able to apply his people and fashion skills. Later he was employed by Schlumberger, an offshore company, but the traditional path did not fulfill his ambitions. Driven by an entrepreneurial spirit inspired by his parents, he pursued flight lessons to learn how to fly airplanes but ultimately found his calling in the roofing industry. This led him to establish his own roofing company, where he gained extensive knowledge and experience, eventually becoming a general contractor. Over the years, Alvin earned numerous state license classifications from the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors, including specialties in Building Construction, Electrical, Mechanical, Mold Remediation, Residential Building, and Roofing and Sheet Metal. He took great joy in his work, finding fulfillment in constructing many places of worship, homes, and businesses.
Memories of Alvin's laughter, quick wit, and his special gift of making everyone feel welcome and included are being cherished by his devoted partner, Monica Porter of Lafayette, La.; his son, Alvin (Tanya) Noel Jr. of Lafayette, La.; his beloved grandchildren: Kayla Hammond of Austell, Ga; Dallas Noel of Arlington, Tx., Alaysha Noel and Azariah Noel of Lafayette, La., and Brylee Porter of Alexandria, La.; his siblings: Emma (Herbert) Noel-Batiste of Arnaudville, La, and Calvin (Lovenia) Noel Jr. of Lafayette, La; a sister-in-law, Clarissa Noel; an aunt, and a wide circle of cousins, nieces, nephews, employees, business partners, and friends who will forever cherish his memories.
Alvin leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, hard work, and an abiding entrepreneurial spirit that will forever live on in the hearts of all who know him.
He is preceded in death by his son, Tyler James Porter, his parents: Calvin Noel, Sr. and Daisy Harris Noel-Thibodeaux, his brothers: Carlton Noel, and Hilton Noel, and his sisters: Mary Louversa Baltazar, Lillian Gordon, and Lita Noel.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025, from 10:00 am to 10:45 am at Refugee Temple Ministries, Inc.
