Alvin Williams, age 84, of Altha passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2024. He was born March 22, 1939. Alvin was keen to let anyone who asked, and a lot who didn't, know that he was "looking good" in hopes his sly smile would overcome the large facial feature god gave him to help hold up his reading glasses. Alvin got his start in leadership through participation in FFA and rose to the rank of chapter president in Altha. After graduation from Altha High School in 1957 he spent a short time at the University of Georgia, a short time in the military, and then a lifetime back home. He was later the Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge in Marianna while also serving as the Florida Division Manager for Georgia Timberlands, which at the time was one of the largest timber dealerships in the Southeast. Alvin later formed his own timber dealership and then ran a manufacturing operation making fence posts distributed across the eastern United States. He loved to tinker with equipment and never met a complex problem he couldn't solve with something simple. He also never encountered a simple problem that he couldn't attempt to resolve with a very complex solution. In his later years Alvin was a simple yet complicated man. He had the ability to bring calmness from chaos and chaos from calmness. His favorite toast was Ed Ball's "Confusion to the Enemy;" However, he was also known to shorten the toast to simply "Confusion." Alvin told many stories, some of which were probably true, some were stolen from others with the names changed to protect the guilty and indict the innocent, and a few may have been made up just to see if you would believe them. He was married for 60 years, the last half of which was enjoyed by the couple in separation. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Daniel "Big Bone" Williams; his mother Roxie Williams, his sisters Seable Perry, Jeweldean Harris, Lorene Smith; and his brother Chester Williams. He is survived by his wife Millie Jo; his son Richard Williams and his wife Denise, his daughter Lynn Hobby and her husband Edwin; three grandchildren, Cassie Hobby, Daniel Williams, and Josh Williams, two great grandchildren, Evie and Ellie; his sister Lodean Tate; and his brothers Lester Williams, Loyd Williams, and Kenny Williams. Sometimes family is more than blood. We would also like to thank another family member, James "Wildman" Mason, for being his longtime caretaker, friend, and truth teller. A viewing for family and close friends will be held from 10 AM CT until 11 AM CT at Peavy Funeral Home in Blountstown. A private service for immediate family will be held afterwards. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to the Altha FFA Chapter or Chipola College to be used for vocational scholarships in areas related to welding, construction, or manufacturing. All arrangements are under the direction of Marlon Peavy at Peavy Funeral Home in Blountstown, FL.
