Andrew J. Snyder, Jr. 90 passed away on January 24, 2025. Born in Gilbert, MN to parents, Andrew and Mary Snyder on March 7, 1934.
Andy was on Gilbert's 1951 basketball team that won the State Championship and was also acclaimed for his 65 foot shot during one of these games! He went on to play college basketball for the University of Minnesota Gophers.
Andy graduated from the U of MN with a degree in Parks & Recreation, then relocated to California while working in four different districts. Andy was then employed for 10 years at the San Rafael Parks and Recreation Department while obtaining a Masters Degree in his field.
Opportunities to work overseas took Andy to Saudi Arabia, Brunei and the Marshall Islands beginning in 1977. At this time, Andy had the opportunity to travel extensively to Australia, Bali. Thailand, The Philippines, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Kenya and parts of Europe.
In 1993, Andy moved back to Gilbert, married Valerie where they enjoyed life in a home on Ely Lake in Eveleth, MN. They looked forward to spending most winters in CA with the Snyder families and also enjoyed good times back in MN with the families of Valerie's children, Diane and Dave Vack.
Andy is survived by his beloved wife Valerie of 31 years, his Snyder children, Steven (Jules), Scott (Mary), Sandy Frank (Paul Fritz), Spencer all of California. He is also survived by his sister Marlene (Jim Larson) and brother Glenn Snyder, step daughter-In-law Jean Vack and grandchildren Ryan & Marisa Snyder, Sabina Fritz, Kyle Aho and Dan & Jena Vack.
Sincere thanks to the Riley Crossing Senior Living in Chanhassen, MN for the wonderful care given to Andy the past three years.
Memorial Mass will be held 11am Saturday, May 17, 2025 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Gilbert. Friends may gather one hour prior at the church. Burial will be in the Gilbert Cemetery. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert.
