Anita Martin Lafuente was born in Cavinti, Laguna on December 5, 1926 to Jose and Patricia Martin. She was the only daughter and second of five children. She lived in Tayabas, Quezon where she met Dr. Samson O. Lafuente, and they were married on December 28, 1945. They grew their family to have Dr. Pete (deceased), Louie (deceased) and Mila of Vidalia, GA. Sam and Nita followed the great migration to the United States and relocated to Vidalia, Ga in June 1972. She was known for ler leche flan and chiffon cake which were expected at all of her parties.
Nita continued her love of hosting events by providing a welcoming environment for Filipino nurses and soldiers who were temporarily stationed in the area. Sam and Nita became the automatic grandparents, parents, aunt and uncle to so many Filipinos that were far away from their homes in the Phillippines. From these associations, they became family to so many US based Filipinos. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary where they renewed their vows. Both enjoyed the quiet and relaxing days as retirees until Sam's untimely death in 1998. A devout Catholic and prayer warrior, Anita began her day in the presence of the Lord and ended each day with praying the rosary. Anita stayed in Vidalia until April 2017 where she joined Mila (her daughter) and Marylou (granddaughter) in Redlands, CA.
In December 2021, many family members and friends gathered to celebrate Anita's 95th birthday. Even until her last years, she enjoyed celebrating life. On Wednesday, May 11, 2022, Anita suffered a massive stroke and joined our Lord on Friday, May 13, 2022. She was cremated and her final resting place will be at Lakeview Memorial Gardens alongside her husband, Sam; her son, Dr. Pete; and grandson, Pete, Jr.
Anita is survived by her daughter, Mila; grandchildren, Pam and husband, Sylvester of Atlanta, GA; Pauline and husband, Charlie of Columbus, OH, Brian of Atlanta, GA, Marylou of Vidalia; daughters-in-law, Yollie of Vidalia and Joy of Winnipeg, Canada; great-grandchild, William of Columbus, OH, and her fluffy grandbabies, Zoey of Vidalia and Lily of Columbus, OH.
A Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Anita Lafuente will be held on Friday, November 25, 2022 at 10:00am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Graveside service and interment will be held at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
