Ann "Beth" Elizabeth Welch, 69, of Spotsylvania died unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, after an acute and brief illness. She was born in Washington, DC, was the baby of four children, and attended catholic school in DC and Virginia. Followed by the death by her father, Beth and her mother Frances moved to northern Virginia, where she later graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School.
She married her first husband and briefly worked at the DIA after which Beth and Jimmy moved to Woodbridge to start a family. They had three girls, and the family stayed in that area for over 45 years. Frances "Nana" suffered a stroke and moved in with Beth to recover and in 1980, Beth was widowed when Jimmy died of pancreatic cancer. Later, Beth met "the perfect man for her" and married Douglas, who bravely took on three small daughters and a live-in mother-in-law. Doug and Beth raised their girls together while Beth worked part-time in real estate appraisal offices.
Beth was an avid life-long learner, who had wide ranging interests that included pharmacology and medicine, wildlife, meteorology, grammar and vocabulary, history, and people. Beth was a particularly great listener, and she was intently interested in the people she loved. Although she was a worrier, as a breast cancer survivor she was always thinking about the health and happiness of her loved ones. She loved to chat, had serious F.O.M.O. and was always trying to make everyone feel included by recognizing birthdays, anniversaries or other important dates on her Norman Rockwell calendar. Beth was a warm, authentic, and sincere woman, who was a picky eater, and believed in living her life, her way. She was unbelievably proud of her daughters and grandchildren.
Beth especially enjoyed the beach, particularly OBX, which was her "happy place" and she traveled there nearly every year since the early eighties. Here she developed a love for ocean views, lighthouses, and pelicans. Beth loved family photographs and videos and her favorite pastimes were reminiscing, as she was always looking forward to the next gathering to make more memories. Beth despised cockroaches, camping, dairy products, and lies but she really enjoyed her grand dogs, birdwatching, word games and puzzles, and a good BLT on whole wheat toast with crispy bacon and a homegrown tomato.
Survivors include her treasured husband, Douglas Welch; three daughters, Kelly Goff (Jared), Jennifer Dulin (Matt), and Sarah Lajmoraki (Bob); five grandchildren Joseph Liptak, Rachel and Andrew Goff, Rebecca Hinderliter, and Kameron Lajmoraki; brother Eric Freund (Jackie); sister Ellen Jennings (Gary); brother-in-law James Barber; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.
Beth was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Frances Freund; her first husband James Hinderliter, Jr; brother Joseph Freund; her brother-from-another-mother, James Wilkins Jr; and her dearest pups, Butch and Sampson.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. Interment will take place at Stafford Memorial Cemetery at a later time and will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Beth Welch to World Central Kitchen at www.wck.org.
