Anna B. Blasen, a longtime resident of St. Johns, Michigan, died peacefully at home on November 1, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was 98 years old.
Anna was born on June 24, 1927, in Mecosta, Michigan, the daughter of James and Velma (Boroff) Henry. She married Richard Smith in 1948 and lived in Beal City until his passing in 1960. On December 29, 1962, she married Howard J. Blasen in St. Johns, where together they made their home for over fifty-eight years. Anna and Howard were devoted members of St. Joseph Catholic Church and active members of the community.
Anna dedicated her life to her family and to the service of others. She lovingly raised a blended family of six children, worked for many years as an elementary school aide at East Olive Elementary and was a former Girl Scout leader. Anna enjoyed sewing, playing cards, and cooking for family get-togethers. She was well known for her Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls she made for five generations for new family members. She found her greatest joy in her family, cherishing every moment spent with her family.
She is survived by her children, Gary (Marsha) Blasen, Jan (Derek) Stotler, Jim (Jamie) Smith, Judy (Lee) VanCamp, Jane (Ben) Austin, and Jerry (Colleen) Smith; sixteen grandchildren; thirty five great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren, with one on the way, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husbands, Richard Smith and Howard Blasen.
Visitation will be held at McGeehan Funeral Home, 1500 Waterford Pkwy, St Johns on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, from 3-8 PM, with a Rosary at 7 PM.
Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 109 Linden St., St. Johns, on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at 11 AM, with visitation beginning at the church at 10 AM. Burial Mt. Rest Cemetery in St. Johns. A luncheon to follow. Click here to view a livestream of Thursday's Funeral Mass
