Anne M. Brown, known to most as Nancy, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 13, 2024. Born in Philadelphia, PA, Nancy grew up in Roxborough before ultimately moving to Braddock, NJ, where she raised her family.
After graduating from John W. Hallahan Catholic Girl's High School, Nancy began her 37-year teaching career at an elementary school in the Diocese of Philadelphia. Upon completing her degree from Gwynedd Marcy College, Nancy moved to New Jersey and began teaching in the public school system. After 20 plus years in Winslow Township Schools, she retired to spend time with her grandchildren and to become a "snowbird."
In her early years of teaching, Nancy would summer at the Jersey shore, renting a summer home in Avalon with friends. It was in the summer of 1973 that Nancy met her soon to be husband Frank. They were married on June 23, 1975.
Nancy enjoyed spending time with her teacher friends at their monthly dinners. She was always on the sidelines at her children's sporting events, and an active parishioner at Sacred Heart Church in Cedar Brook, NJ where she taught religious education and sang in the choir.
Nancy's passion was to travel. She had visited England, Italy, and many Caribbean Islands, in addition to numerous locations in the U.S. She and Frank would winter in Punta Gorda, Florida in their retirement years. Nancy and her sister, Patty, had aspirations to travel much more, but unfortunately Nancy's eventual diagnosis with Alzheimer's Disease did not allow for those dreams to come true.
In her last days, Nancy is remembered by her beautiful voice that regaled the common area of her assisted living facility. She was very much cared for by the staff and lived her last days in their gentle care.
Nancy is the daughter of the late Raymond and Anne Merman. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Francis R. Brown, Jr., her brothers, Msgr. Raymond Merman and John Merman, and her sister Maryanne McGee. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Frances Brown, her daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Paul Mattessich, her grandchildren, Claire Brown, Gregory Brown, Matthew Brown, Gavin Brown, Jack Brown, Lily Brown, Stella Mattessich, Anthony Mattessich, her brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Barbara Merman, her sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Edward Lemanowicz, and many nieces and nephews.
