Dorothy Ann Archer, mom, mother, nanny, grand mom, great grand nanny passed away after valiantly fighting an illness, on Monday, August 28, 2023, surrounded by her family.
Dorothy was born, raised, and never left Columbus, New Jersey where she met Richard Archer who was from the other end of town. Together they bought the home where they raised their children, grandchildren, other children, and many pets and where she ultimately passed away, exactly what she wanted.
Dorothy worked for the Columbus and Florence Post Offices as a clerk for many years. She was heavily dedicated to her Catholic faith and continued to be involved with St. Andrews Church where she was christened. She served on the Altar Rosary Society, was a Eucharistic Minister, and was always available when needed. Dorothy was a member of the Mansfield Twp. Ambulance Squad for over 50 years, serving in different positions. As many of you know Dorothy was an avid gardener both with raising beautiful flowers and fresh vegetables. She would spend hours in her gardens, which not only provided her countless hours of solitude (as she would say because she knew none of her kids were coming out to help pull weeds nor would dad be out there because of the heat) but also provided delicious food for her family and friends and gorgeous flowers to enjoy.
Dorothy and Richard's (Dick) biggest accomplishment were raising their six children; Richard (Gail), Dawn (Greg), Carol (Steven), Valerie (Angelo), Diane (Sean), David (Laura). Their greatest joy was helping to raise and be very involved with their Grandchildren; Julius (Jen), Nik (Kara), Zach, Ryan (Catie), Sierra (Mike), Dakota (Mikalya), Angelo (Elizabeth), Nico (Kaitlyn), Croix, Hunter, and Haylei. She enjoyed attending all their sporting events and routing them on as well as baking cakes for the teams. She was also lucky to see the births of her Great Grandchildren who are Vanessa, Iris, Lily, Haven, Reign, Brixton, Brody, and Brooks. Dorothy was ever such the doting Grand and Great Grand Mother making sure she went to showers, birthday parties, faced time them with help and loved to tell people about all the Grand and Great Grandchildren she had.
Dorothy was the consummate volunteer throughout her life with volunteering on the Ambulance Squad, at her church, and as a member of the Domestic Violence Resource Team. It gave her so much joy to be able to help others in their time of need in whatever way she could help. Dorothy/Mom was an amazing woman in all facets of life, and she is already missed. Our family has now lost both our mom and dad, but we take solace in the vision of our mom and dad dancing and laughing up in Heaven with God.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2023, from 9-10am at St. Andrew's RC Church, 2489 Monmouth Road, Jobstown, NJ 08041. A mass of Christian burial will follow at 10am. Burial will be in Columbus Cemetery.
Donations may be made in Dorothy's memory to the Mansfield Township Ambulance Corps, 41 Fieldcrest Drive, Columbus, NJ 08022.
Services entrusted to Huber-Moore Funeral Home, Bordentown, NJ.
