Fletcher Levone Bennett, 73, of Columbus, NJ, passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2023, at home.
Born in Winston Salem, N.C., Fletcher lived in Nyack, Tarrytown and Harlem, N.Y., before moving to Columbus, NJ, 22 years ago. Fletcher was a graduate of Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, M.A. and Columbia University in New York City. He was an Electrical Engineer for Spectrum Cable, and belonged to the Local IBEW 3 Union for 43 years, where he was very active as a representative. Fletcher also served as a volunteer Sheriff in Westchester County, N.Y. He was a man who loved music and enjoyed playing the piano and saxophone. He was passionate about reading, talking politics, bird watching and feeding the ducks. Fletcher also earned his black belt in Martial Arts. He recently picked up a new hobby, brushing up on his French and learning Spanish.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Marsha Gambles-Bennett; sons, Sahib Bennett (Micaela), Sharif Bennett, and Marcus Bennett; brother, Arthur Preston Bennett (Brenda Couch Bennett), sister, Roslyn Bennett Lentz (Ronald Lentz); his grandson Robeson Bennett; Brother of the late Barbara Buie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at a later date.
