Obituary for Anne Ayres Terry Sherren
Anne Ayres Terry Sherren (Mrs. William S.) long time resident of Naperville and recently of Lexington Square of Lombard died on August 10, 2024, at Bella Terra Lombard in Lombard, IL.
Anne was born on July 1, 1936 in Atlanta, GA. She was preceded in death by her husband William, her parents, Annie Ayres Lewis Terry and Edward Allison Terry. She is survived by her brother, Edward Allison (Lady) Terry, Jr., one nephew Edward Allison (Jennifer) Terry III, nieces Elizabeth Anne Terry and Louise Ayres Terry (Eric) Block, two great nieces Grace Elizabeth Block (Jordan) Stoltzfus and Allison Block (Ben) Skaggs, and one great nephew Jake Edward Terry and numerous cousins. Also her sister in law Mary Jean Sherren (Darwin) Johnson and one nephew, Mark Alan Johnson.
Anne retired from North Central College in 2001 after 35 years as Professor of Chemistry. She also taught for five years at the Texas Woman's University in Denton, Texas.
Anne received her BA from Agnes Scott College in 1957 and her PhD. in Chemistry from the University of Florida in Gainesville in 1961. She was a long time member of Knox Presbyterian Church in Naperville. Anne was an Elder and served as Clerk of Session, Chair of the Christian Education Committee. She was active with Presbyterian Women of Knox and on the Mission Committee and Chair of the Dr. Anne T. Sherren Scholarship Committee.
Anne was active in Iota Sigma Pi National Honor Society for women in chemistry. She served as National President, Historian and Director. She was also active in the Delta Kappa Gamma International Society (Women Educators). She served her local chapter as President and many other offices.
At Lexington Square of Lombard Anne served as Worship Coordinator for the Friday Ecumenical Worship Service for many years.
Anne enjoyed travel, reading, gardening, needle work and her many friends.
A memorial service is being planned for a later date.
