Arlene Weare passed away early Saturday morning February 15, 2025, at the age of 98 years, 7 months and 25 days at the Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward, NE.
Services will be held at a later date.
Levander Funeral Home of Albion, NE is in charge of the arrangements.
Mary Arlene Russell Weare was born to Theo and Ruby Russell, June 22, 1926, at home on the farm near Maywood, NE where she grew up. Arlene worked for a day at the Canteen in North Platte, NE during WWII. After high school, Arelene attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln where she majored in Home Economics. She was part of the first group of women to play volleyball as part the Physical Education program at UNL. While at UNL she met her husband-to-be.
On July 25, 1952, Arlene married Wilfred Weare. The couple then moved to Lawrence, KS where their daughter Evelyn was born. In 1955 they moved to Curtis, NE where they had a photography studio; she hand-colored some types of photos. Son Henry and daughter Alice were born during this time. In 1958 they moved to Maxwell, NE, where her husband started teaching. In 1963 they moved to Grand Forks, ND. In 1964 the family moved to Burns, OR. In 1968 they moved to Hines, OR. In 1975 they moved again to Stuart, NE. In 1976 moved to Cedar Rapids, NE, where she lived until 2022 when she had to go to Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward, NE.
She enjoyed singing in the church choir, cooking, camping, gardening, teaching Sunday school, was a 4-H leader and for a few years made wedding cakes. She was active in church women groups. She especially liked participating in an ecumenical conversational prayer group.
She is survived by her daughter: Evelyn Weare-Lindfors; son-in-law: R. J. (Jarl) Weare-Lindfors; son: Henry Weare; brother: George Russell; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Arlene was preceded in death by her husband: Wilfred Weare; daughter: Alice Weare; two sisters: Ellen Brown and Norma Manning.
