Arlie Dewayne Whisenhunt Sr. passed away on January 30, 2024. He was born January 6, 1950 in Merkel, Texas to Myrtle (Reynolds) and Arlie Quest Whisenhunt. He married Linda Steele on August 15, 1970 in Haskell, Texas. Linda preceded him in death in 1976. He later married Sandra Rigamonti Cook on March 25, 1990 in Houston, Texas. Sandra preceded him in death in 2009.
He was drafted into the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1974. Dewayne began his career at Timex as an automation engineer. He later worked as a machinist at Hartman Brothers, then owned and operated Monarch Machine where he made parts for the oilfield. After the oilfield crashed, he began a new career with the Dept. of Defense, where he retired in 2012 after 24 years of service.
In retirement, Dewayne loved to share his hobby on how to fish winning his grandson, Quest, his first ever trophy at age 5. His 2 children recall fishing with him when they were younger, including catching their own bait and making bait out of puppy chow and big red. His lifelong love of gardening flourished as well. He had a beautiful garden and made his own seeds which he traded all over the country. He had a plethora of fresh vegetables and fruits, canning them with special labels. He made fresh seasonings, jams, and sauces. He also started making meats and smoking his own foods. He smoked everything from cheeses to Boudin. He taught his granddaughter, Marlie, how to make fresh pies which started her love for baking.
Dewayne is survived by his daughter, Michelle Whisenhunt-Jordan and wife Angela of Abilene; his son, Dewayne Whisenhunt and wife Marilyn of Spring; four grandsons, Bryson Trussell (Hollie) of Stephenville, Zach Trussell (Kascidy) of Ft. Worth, Austin Trussell (Tiffany) of Haskell, Quest Whisenhunt of Spring; two granddaughters, Marlie Whisenhunt of Spring and Blessing Jordan of Abilene; five great grandsons and one great granddaughter.
Dewayne was also preceded in death by his parents, Arlie Quest and Myrtle B Whisenhunt; four sisters: Patricia Ray, Carol Whisenhunt, Lois Brubaker, and Frances O'Brien; one brother, Gary Don Whisenhunt; wife and mother of his children, Linda; wife of 19 years, Sandra; and one granddaughter, Faith Jordan.
He was a selfless and amazing father figure to all who knew him. Dwayne left a legacy and will be truly missed.
