Barbara Susanne (Bane) Bucci, 92, passed away in her Swampscott residence on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones.
Barbara is survived by her husband of more than 70 years, Charles Bucci, and their children: Cynthia Bucci Lyons (William Lyons III), Lisa Bucci, Charles Bucci Jr. (Shannon), Mary Bucci (Bobbie Clark), Pamela Jarboe (Steve Jarboe), and Amy Bucci. In addition, Barbara leaves 10 grandchildren, Jessica Lyons-Narr, Jacqueline Lyons, William Lyons, Paul Sobchenko, Jackson Jarboe, Max Jarboe, Danielle Bucci, Connor Bucci, Anthony Bucci, and Kaitlyn Bucci as well as five great-grandchildren Julianna, Hudson, Josephine, Jackson, and Beverly.
Barbara was a former resident of Middleton; Needham; Nashua, NH; Troy, NY; and Hamilton. She was born December 11, 1932, in Providence, and came of age living on the grounds of the Carmelite Seminary, where Gordon College currently operates in Wenham. She attended St. Mary Star of the Sea High School in Beverly, and met her future husband, Charlie, through a high school classmate.
Barbara loved the large Bucci Italian family she had married into, but as the daughter of two full-blooded Irish parents, made sure on Saint Patrick's Day that her children wore green and their last names were changed to O'Bucci. She even cajoled one daughter to take Irish step dancing, spending weeks hand embroidering the costume. At 84, Barbara coordinated a trip to Ireland with Charlie to visit cousins and connect their children with her children.
Barbara was an active volunteer, parishioner and Eucharistic Minister of Saint Joseph's Parish and school in Needham, which all six of her children attended. For the annual Christmas Bazaar, Barbara sewed stuffed animals by hand (Grape Ape was her specialty), made wrap-around skirts to sell, ran the Spaghetti Dinner and then stepped up to run the entire bazaar.
Barbara cherished her grandchildren and delighted in her great-grandchildren, creating an Instagram account at age 90 in order to follow their adventures.
In addition to enjoying her large family, Barbara worked for numerous small businesses over the years providing business and accounting preparation services. Her clients included popular television show producers including This Old House. She took herself back to college when her children were older and loved her work and professional colleagues, retiring only a few short years ago.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 253 Cabot Street, Beverly, on Monday August 11th at 10:00 AM. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Beverly. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, Sunday, August 10th from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
