Barbara R. Fanning

It is with deep sadness that we share the loss of our dear sister, Barbara Darney Fanning, who passed away on June 30, 2023 after a long illness at the age of 82. Barbara was raised in Belmont, MA, and graduated from BHS, class of '59. There she made several life-long friends with whom she shared many special times over the past more than 60 years.
She and her late husband Robert Fanning spent many happy years together running their successful retail business, Woods Hole Marine Clothing, in Boston and Falmouth. They also built their special home on Telegraph Hill in West Falmouth, which became a central part of their lives. Ultimately, they brought their business into their home and operated it as a mail-order company, which they called Wetskins.
Barbara worked hard and was always very proud of her integral part in the success of each of these endeavors. She loved her life in Falmouth, and though they never had children, they were never without the love and companionship of (always) a happy, active Standard Black Poodle-from Harry ('69) to Foster ('21).
Barbara was predeceased By her loving parents, the late Francis Clare Darney and the late Ruth M. (Mahan). She was also predeceased by her dear sister Jane and her husband Gene Beauchemin. She is survived by her loving sisters Joan Dwyer, and her husband John, and Susan Orsini, both of Falmouth. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Joan and Susan want to recognize the supportive staff at Royal Megansett Nursing and Retirement Home for caring for Barbara with compassion and dignity during the last months of her life.
There will be a Private Remembrance with immediate family in Falmouth. In lieu of flowers and in honor of Barbara, please tell someone you love them today!
