Barbara Ann Lundy Griggs, age 80, of Hartsville, SC, went Home to be with her Lord on April 9, 2023, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center, holding the hand of her husband, Bobby, and her daughter, Teresa, and surrounded by other family members.
Barbara was born to Robert Wallace and Annie Lee Lundy on October 26, 1942, in Hartsville, SC. She married the love of her life, Bobby Windell Griggs, on August 21, 1960, and spent 62 years as a devoted wife, who served her husband and family until the day she died.
Barbara worked as a legal secretary for many years in several law offices in Hartsville, SC, and she retired from Assurant Insurance Company in Florence, SC, in 2005. After retirement, she worked part-time for Edward Jones in Hartsville, SC, but her greatest accomplishment was in her service to her Lord. Through the years, she was a deacon’s wife, 3rd grade Sunday School teacher, church choir member, Sunday School teacher for the deaf, Bible Drill instructor, nursery worker, church librarian, and a willing volunteer in other areas at her church home, Lakeview Baptist Church. She laughed and cried and supported and encouraged and prayed for others. She lived a servant’s life and modeled a servant’s heart. She loved on people with hugs and smiles. She called them and had long conversations. She fed into their lives. She pointed them all to Jesus. And she finished well!
Barbara joins her parents, Robert and Annie Lee Lundy, and her sister, Sue Neal, in Heaven. She is survived by her husband, Bobby Griggs, of Hartsville, SC; her son, Windell (Kathy) Griggs of Calumet, OK; her daughter, Kim (Steve) Murray of Calumet, OK; her daughter, Teresa (John) Hill of Bishopville, SC; her sister, Joyce (Mark) Corley of Hartsville, SC; her brother-in-law, David Neal, of Hartsville, SC; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and a host of cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Barbara was loved by so many. Her positive outlook, beautiful smile, warm hugs, generous spirit, and kind heart left an impression wherever she went. She never met a stranger that didn’t quickly become a friend, and she always left others feeling better than they did before she walked into the room.
Please join Barbara’s family in celebrating her life on Saturday, April 15, 2023. A visiting hour will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 a.m. at Lakeview Baptist Church, in Hartsville, South Carolina.
The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of donations to the Children’s Ministry or the Senior Adult Ministry at Lakeview Baptist Church.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7
