Barbara E. Marcantonio passed away at home on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at the age of 76. She was born in Pacific Grove, CA on November 13, 1947 to Raymond and Nicoline Groth. She is preceded in death by her younger sister, Nicoline Hiserman, husband, Sam, and nephew, Joshua Forrest.
She was proud of her parochial school education and was the first graduating class at Notre Dame High School in 1965. While obtaining her AA at Hartnell College, she started a career in the banking business. Her first job was at Valley National Bank, where she made lifelong friends and met her beloved husband, Sam.
Barbara then took a break from banking to help run her parents' moving and storage business: Scott's Van and Storage. She was an active member of the California Moving and Storage Association as the first chairwoman to serve on the board. After the closing of the family business, she made her way back into the banking world where she was a loan officer at Coast-Tel FCU, later retiring from Pacific Valley Bank in 2009.
Throughout her life, Barbara was committed to serving her community and volunteering her time, talent and energy to many local organizations such as Madonna del Sasso parish and school, Italian Catholic Federation, Boy Scouts and Notre Dame High School to name a few. She was selfless of her time and would assist anyone who needed a helping hand.
After Sam passed away in 2018, Barbara enjoyed playing dominos and cards with her Tuesday ladies. Her door was always open with plenty of treats to share over heartfelt conversation. She was famous for her personalized goody bags and could talk sports facts with anyone.
Lastly, Barbara loved her family. While she liked to save the bragging for Sam to do, she was guilty of it as well. She took such great pride in watching her nieces' and nephews' life accomplishments and was always clapping the loudest at her granddaughters' recitals and sports games. She would offer up prayers for anyone in need and was quick with a hug.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Nicoline (Cory) Yoder of Salinas, CA; her granddaughters Olivia and Katie; niece Renee Forrest (Michael Soto) of Salinas, CA; nephew Christopher (Sarah) Hiserman of Belmont, MA; sister-in-law Margaret Mosher of San Jose, CA; niece K.C. Moore of Morgan Hill, CA; nephew David Mosher of San Jose, CA as well as several great nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be held on August 30th, 2024 at St. Joseph's Church at 11am with a reception immediately following in the hall~we would love to hear your favorite Barbara memories.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Notre Dame High School or Madonna del Sasso School.

This I received from Barbara this year on my birthday.
Barbara knew that I would read the bible in the early morning's before the sun came up:
Often we would joked that reading God's Word doesn't make us better than others, but it is something we definitely need.
I will miss you my friend.

MS BARBARA,OUR FAMILY'S FRIEND

As time went by, I came to realized how easily Ms. Barbara was able to talk and listen to me with deep interest, compassion, and understandable interaction. She showed deep caring of the details of my daily activities. I recall the first time I noticed my pictures in her rotating picture frame. It had surprised me that I had mean so much to her, even though I wasn't her real family. That's when I realized that I didn't have to be related to someone to be loved by them; it was love that made it specials.
I become closer to Ms. Barbara sometime after Mr. Sam passed.
Mr. Sam would talk to us when he and their dog Jesse walked by our house.
It was amazing how how much time had passed of me visiting and having meaningful conversations with Ms. Barbara, some brief and some a little longer. I also realized in time that Ms. Barbara had an open door policy - unless the drapes were pulled down.
I know I am blessed to have known Ms. Barbara. The mailpersons, the delivery team, and others all received special attention of take - home goodies on any given day, as did I. Her giving continued even more on the holidays. Christmas, Resurrection day, Valentine's day, Saint Patrick's day, and even on my birthday. She would always meet with me and chat about my upcoming school year.
I am very thankful to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for meeting Ms. Barbara through my grandpa's persistence.
I welcomed our visits with her, as she left an everlasting stamp in my heart, spirit, and my being. I have learned a lot from Ms. Barbara, and some lessons hopefully I will retain and embrace in the future as I get older.
Now I have a message for Ms. Barbara I hope will come to her in prayer:
This is not goodbye, I know you are in heaven; So I will say farewell until I see you again!
Ms. Barbara I love you, I thank you - I will miss the gifts, the treats (yummy) that you gave me - and you, as a gentle and kind presence in my life. Forever will I miss your caring conversations and laughter, You will always be in my heart and thoughts as I grow. Thank you for your listening ear, everlasting friendship to me and my Nana & Papa, also the comfort that I have in to have known you.

Our condolences to the immediate , extended family members & friends.
