“Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because having stood the test of that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.” James 1:12
Barbara Marine Moore was born on September 20, 1950, in Orange, Virginia to the late Samuel Scott and Dorothy Handy. Barbara was 1 of 5 children. On Saturday, May 31, 2025, the Lord called her home on the wings of Angels to eternal rest following a lengthy illness.
Barbara was educated in the Fairfax County public school system and graduated from Groveton High School in 1969. At a very early age, Barbara accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was baptized at the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Alexandria, Virginia. After moving to Maryland, she became a member of Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal Church in Fort Washington, Maryland where she attended until her health declined. Barbara un-waving faith became the navigator of her life, allowing her to face her serious illness without fear or question. She never complained about her illness.
Barbara and Walter were joined in Holy Matrimony on March 5, 1970, and from this union twin boys were born, Kenny and Kevin. She worked for the Environment Protection Agency and retired due to her illness after 36 years of public service. Barbara enjoyed going to Casino, roller skating, entertaining friends, family and co-workers and traveling.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Scott and Dorothy Handy; sister Shirley Handy-Corum; brother Steve Handy. Barbara leaves in God’s Keeping: Her devoted husband of 55 years, Walter; her sons, Kenny (Deidre); Kevin (Melba); grandson Caleb Moore; granddaughters Makayla Moore and Ella Moore; sister Dorothy Handy- Kelley; brother Samuel Handy (Lena) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
