Barbara Ann Pennix of Bedford, VA entered eternal rest on December 15, 2024. She entered this world on August 6, 1944 to Margaret and Leonard Carper and was the first born of eight children. She was preceded in death by her parents, her late husband, Richard Pennix, three brothers: Leonard Jr., James, and Thomas Carper and one sister, Dorothy Poindexter.
Barbara moved to New Jersey early on in her young adult life where she lived for many years, but moved back to Roanoke, VA and eventually made her forever home in Bedford. Barbara worked for Macy's Department store for over twenty-five years where she enjoyed working as a manager. Later, she provided a loving home to a number of foster children and adults for many years. She was a proud and faithful member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Roanoke until her declining health prevented her attendance. She found great joy and companionship through a number of dogs over the years, most notably her last and beloved, "B.J."
She is survived by five children, three sisters: Emma (Roger) Witcher, Gracie Bell, and Ruth (Glenn) Austin; two sisters-in-law: Janet Carper and Joann Carper, five nieces: Bridget, Crystal, Jamie, Keisha, and Shannon; and four nephews: Leroy, Maurice, Will, and Robert. Left to cherish her memory are a host of other family members and friends.
