Barbara Lou Quain, 82, previous lifetime resident of Capac, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2025. She was lovingly cared for in Kansas by her son Tim, his wife Becky, and their entire family as she was overcome by Alzheimer's these past five years.
She was born in Mt. Clemens, Michigan, on October 2, 1943, to the late Clair and Bertha (Hall) Smith.
Barb enjoyed participating in the Belle River Ladies' Golf League and she especially enjoyed boating and spending time on Lake Nepessing. She was a past board member and treasurer at Zion United Methodist Church, Capac, as well as the treasurer for the Four County Foundation.
She was the proud owner of Barb's Bookkeeping & Tax Service in Capac, where she loved to decorate the office walls with giant family photos. Barb was especially happy when she was talking to her clients about her grandchildren. She loved helping her grandchildren with their baseball teams, taking them swimming, tubing, attending their school plays and taking them Christmas shopping (one carload at a time). She attended as many graduations and weddings as her health allowed.
Barb is survived by her children, James (Colleen) Quain, Timothy (Becky) Quain and Jane (Bill) Nabors. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Grandchildren and great-grandchildren from Jim's Family: James Joseph, Elizabeth Kovacs (Eric), Olivia, Eamon, Emeric, Liam, Adrian, Katarina Barbosa (Ramon), Rafael, Madalena, Beatriz, Emily Torzala (Daniel), Andrew, Aurora, Lucy, Juliette, Leonardo, Kevin, Justin, Juliana, Christian, Cecilia, Eleanor, and Ciaran.
Grandchildren and great-grandchildren from Tim's Family: Abigael, Enya Jacas (Corey), Killian, Cora, Emori, Aidan (Anna-Marie), Donny, Thea-May, Lettie, Moira, Egan, Zoë, Trea-Marie, Caelin.
Grandchildren and great-grandchildren from Jane's Family: Simon (Shradha), Rani & Jiya Nabors-Parekh, Margaret (Christian), Nabors-Rodriguez.
She is also survived by her sisters, Betty DeSmit, Beth (Doug) Russ of Armada; and sisters-in -law, Kathy Smith and Lorraine Smith.
She is predeceased by her parents; former husband, James Michael Quain; a granddaughter, Maria Quain; her brothers, Blake and Brion Smith; and her brother-in-law, Albert DeSmit.
The family honors the memory of Barb and invites you to visit and share memories Friday, October 24, 2025, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Capac, with a Rosary service at 7 p.m. Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 25, 2025, at East Berlin Cemetery, Allenton.
Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association or Four County Education Fund.
