Barbara Lee Tolzmann, age 89, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 1, 2024 at her home with her daughter Jeni Tolzmann and family friend Katie Fons at her side.
In accordance with Barbara's wishes, no services will be held.
Barbara was born September 27, 1934 in Milwaukee, WI to Albert and Pauline (Re) Schmier. She graduated from Juneau High School in 1952, and then from UWM in Milwaukee. Barbara was employed as a Teacher with the Milwaukee Public School District for 30 years. She married Gustav George Tolzmann on July 9, 1960 in Milwaukee, WI. Barbara was a member of the Women's Auxiliary at Door County Memorial Hospital and enjoyed doing the Door County House and Garden Walk.
Barbara loved teaching and enriching the lives of her students. She enjoyed baking chocolate chip cookies, and spent most of her life trying to master her mother's spaghetti and meatball recipe. Barbara loved living in Door County, WI and living the Door County life. She especially loved her grandchildren and her dog Holly.
Barbara is survived by her children Jeni Thiele-Tolzmann and Mark (Elizabeth) Tolzmann, 6 grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gustav George Tolzmann and son-in-law Greg Thiele.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated in her name to the Door County Memorial Hospital.
