"Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God[a]; believe also in me. 2 My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going." John 14:1-4
On Friday, October 18, 2024, the year of our Lord our angel slept into eternal rest, peacefully at her home. God looked down and saw his child and said "It is your time to rest from your labour".
Barbara Ann Watson was born to Johnny Watson and Callie Bennett Watson on April 27, 1945, in New Orleans, LA. She was educated in the Orleans Parish School System, graduating from McDonogh 35 Senior High School. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at an early age.
"Nanny" as those closest to her would call her, not to mention the name her granddaughter (Martina) gave her because she couldn't pronounce granny, was a woman of God. From her tender teenage years, she discovered what the Power of Prayer could do. As she grew older, she instilled that same faith in not only her children and grandchildren, but others as well. Nanny would tell even a stranger about the importance of having a relationship with God. She prayed with and for everyone. Nanny loved to gather family for prayer service, which was held in our houses. She and her sisters looked forward to the weekend prayer service where she read scriptures, prayed, prophesied, and taught even the youngest in the room to recite the living word. By the end of the service, she had given everyone a scripture to take with them. One of her favorite scriptures was Psalm 23.
Barbara's life story could have been a book, a top seller might we add. It had it's shares of joy and pain, but through it all she kept God and God kept her.
She was preceded in death by her 2 children, Denise Williams and Terrell Watson; parents, Johnny Watson and Callie "Madear" Watson; 2 sisters, Dorothy Jenkins and Maggie Haney (Roosevelt); niece, Robin Jenkins; 4 nephews, Noel and Timmy Jenkins, Tren and Reginald Watson, Jr.
Barbara leaves to cherish her memories her 6 children, Deidri, Donald, and Catrina Williams, Brandon, Calvin, and Christopher Watson; 14 grandchildren, Nicole, Martina, Denise, Courtney, Christian, Assatan Kwane, Ayanna, Ashanti, Obasi Williams, Morgan Myles, Bayle Watson, Oba and Azanya Moore, and Myron McGowan, Jr; 2 sisters, Elizabeth Watson and Jeanette Johnson; and a host of other relatives and friends. Nanny is so dearly missed by her family and dear friends. Her life and legacy will remain in our hearts forever. As she would say, "Child, death is a part of life", and so it is Nanny. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. 2 Cor 5:8
Relatives and friends of the family are all invited to attend her Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, November 2, 2024, 10:00AM, at St. Stephen Baptist Church, 1738 L.B. Landy Ave, NOLA. Visitation will be held from 9:00AM until the hour of service. Interment Restlawn Memorial Park, Avondale, LA.
