Bart Chournos

With very heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Bart K. Chournos, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend. He passed away unexpectedly due to a heart-related complication on December 22, 2025, at the age of 66.

He was born to Samuel and Janice Chournos on June 27, 1959. He was raised in the small town of Tremonton, Utah, along with his 3 brothers and 2 sisters: Steve, Paulette, Dan, Mike, and Sami. This is where he learned the meaning of hard work and developed a deep love for animals; especially horses.

Bart was called to serve an LDS mission to St. Louis, Missouri, in 1979-81. He was transferred, for the last 9 months, to Nauvoo, Illinois, as a tour guide. Being in Nauvoo was the highlight of his mission. He was able to use many of the farming skills, he learned as a boy, to enhance the Nauvoo experience for visitors.

On August 20,1982, Bart married his sweetheart, Peggy Bunderson, in the Logan, LDS Temple. They shared a beautiful life for 43 years and look forward to spending an eternity together, with their family.

Bart graduated from Ricks college and later Weber State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. He was employed in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit, at the University of Utah Hospital, for over 40 years. He was a key player in implementing the Neonatal AirMed Flight Team at the University Medical Center and St. Benedict's Hospital. He later served many years as the Neonatal Chief Flight Nurse. He loved what he did, especially caring for sweet, innocent infants on a daily basis.

His life was a testament of love, filled with empathy, compassion, and laughter. Bart was an embodiment of the scripture from the LDS faith, "When ye are in the service of your fellow beings, ye are only in the service of your God." (Mosiah 2:17). It was this scripture that guided him throughout his life, in his professional career as an RNC, his personal life, and his unwavering devotion to his family and the gospel.

Bart had the unique opportunity of caring for President Ezra Taft Benson towards the end of the prophet's life. He carried many treasured memories from that experience in his heart.

Bart, a longtime resident of Eden, Utah, was a man of many passions. He loved the outdoors, reveling in the simple pleasure of yard care, and had a special place in his heart for horses. Yet, his greatest joy was in the company of his beloved family. His eyes would light up as he played with his grandkids, and he was ALWAYS seen with a jug of Diet Pepsi in hand, sharing his infectious laughter with those around him.

Bart is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Chournos, and their cherished children: Jared (Emily), Nicole Layton (Brody), Carlee Trejo (Jose), Alexis Torres (Miguel), Samuel, 16 grandkids and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Janice Chournos. Each of them held a special place in Bart's heart, as he did in theirs. He leaves behind a legacy of love, enriched by his empathetic and compassionate spirit.

A public viewing will be held Friday, January 2nd from 6-8 PM at Myers Mortuary at 845 Washington Blvd in Ogden, UT with an additional viewing on Saturday, January 3rd at 10:00 AM. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM at the Huntsville Stake Center, located at 6450 E 1900 N in Eden, UT. He will be interred at Riverview Cemetery in Tremonton, Utah, 175 E 1200 S.
