Benjamin "Ben" Franklin McNew, Jr., 74 of Cookeville, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family.
Ben was born on Monday, April 30, 1951, in Dayton, Tennessee, and he was the son of the late Benjamin Franklin McNew, Sr, and Effie (Evans) McNew.
Ben was a loving son, brother, husband, father, Grumps, uncle, and friend. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1969 and went on to attend Tennessee Tech University. He was a Nuclear Reactor Operator for TVA for over 29 years and went on to work for FEMA after his retirement. He was an avid marksman in his younger years, loved to hunt birds, and enjoyed being at home reading and aggravating grandkids. Ben was loved by those who knew him, and he will be greatly missed.
Ben is survived by, Wife of 46 years, Sue McNew; 2 Children, Channon Winchester and his wife, Carolyn and Heather Ward and her husband, Jon; 3 Granchildren, Drew Winchester, Kileigh Houston, and Evan Ward; Mother, Effie McNew; 2 Sisters, Debbie Fritts and her husband, Chuck and Regina McNew; A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
Ben was preceded in death by his father.
Celebration of Life Memorial Gathering for Ben McNew will be held Saturday, May 31, 2025, from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Crest Lawn Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.

I have such good memories of Ben and Ken´s visits whenever they could get together. They laughed at the family stories each would share and had a great deal of respect for each other. I grieve this loss with you, Susie. A man like Ben leaves so much to be thankful for and will be missed. Lovesue
