She was a cherished mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, sister, and friend. Bernice was born to the late Willie Pinkard and Lucille White Pinkard on September 9, 1931, in Notasulga, Alabama. She was a beloved soul who touched the hearts of many and dedicated her life to serving God, family, and community.
She married the love of her life, Eddie Hughley, Sr., in 1949, and together, they created a beautiful life in Apopka, Florida, where they raised their five sons. She was a devoted wife, a nurturing mother, and the most loving grandmother, always placing the needs of others before her own. Throughout her life, Bernice's heart for service was evident in everything she did. She gave her life to Christ at a young age, and her faith guided her every step. Bernice served for over sixty years as a dedicated and faithful member of Pleasant View Missionary Baptist Church in Apopka. She was a Deaconess, a member of the Apopka Progressive Seniors Club, the Willing Workers Club, and the Nurse's Aide Ministry, always answering the call to serve with a willing heart and a humble spirit.
She attended Macon County Public Schools in Alabama. After moving to Florida, she devoted many years to serving children in her community, retiring from the Orange County Public Schools system. Throughout her life, she was known for her kindness, gentle nature, and incredible ability to make everyone around her feel special and loved. Bernice had a gift for making others feel valued, and her home was a sanctuary of warmth and comfort for all who entered. Her family and friends will forever remember her as a woman of endless compassion who always put others before herself and exemplified what it meant to live a Christ-centered life.
In addition to her family and faith, Bernice was an avid volunteer, always willing to lend a hand in local nursing homes and wherever there was a need. Her love for others was boundless, and she lived her life in service to others. Known for her walks across Apopka and her dedication to staying active, Bernice's spirit was one of joy and kindness. She was a wonderful cook, baker, and homemaker, always making sure her family was well-cared for and loved. Her smile, laugh, and kind words will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eddie Hughley, Sr., her parents, Willie and Lucille Pinkard; two sons, Eddie Hughley, Jr. and Lorenzo Hughley. brothers, Stanford, William, Frank, and Otis Pinkard, and Sister, Ethel Louise Pinkard.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories: Sons: Clifford Hughley (Jerene) Apopka, Florida; Alton Hughley (Angelyn) Apopka, Florida; and Kelvin Hughley (Torrey) Salina, Kansas; along with 29 grandchildren, 20 Greatgrandchildren, and 3 Great-great-grands who were the light of her life.
