Beryl Virginia Gavin, 76, of Billerica MA, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, August 15, 2024 after a courageous two-year battle with Glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer.
Born on May 12, 1948, Beryl was the oldest of three children of Roger and Beverly Dunham, and resided in Bedford, MA. She attended Bedford High School and then worked at Millipore and Digital as an executive secretary. As a teenager, Beryl joined the Bedford Militiamen Drum & Bugle Corps, as a member of the color guard. It was during this time when she met the love of her life, Bob, who was a drummer in the corps. They would attend many competitions together, serve as instructors, and were members of the Drum and Bugle community for many years. Bob and Beryl married in 1968, welcomed two daughters soon after, and they lived in Massachusetts and NH before settling in
Windham, NH. While raising Julie and Dawn in Wilmington, MA, they started a family business, Video Expressions, and Beryl worked as a wedding video and invitations consultant. In later years, Beryl was a medical assistant in a cardiology office, and also worked with her daughter and son-in-law at their corporate cafes and catering business.
Beryl loved traveling with her husband, family, and friends. Some memorable trips included Alaska, Hawaii, Tahiti, Europe, Disney World, and especially her happy place in Aruba. She and Bob attended many art auctions while cruising, and have acquired some memorable pieces for their extensive collection.
Beryl enjoyed ceramics, bingo, playing cards and video games. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and was known as "Bammie" to everyone, but especially her grandchildren, Corinne and Carter. For the past 8 years, she cared for Zachary and referred to him as a "grandson" also.
Beryl was predeceased by her parents, Roger and Beverly Dunham in 2009 and 2011, her beloved husband, Bob Gavin in 2022, and her eldest daughter, Julie Beth in 2006. Beryl is survived by her daughter, Dawn DeGennaro and her husband, Dana of Billerica, MA, pups Colt and Ruger, her grandchildren, Corinne, Carter, Sara May, Devin, and Zachary, her brother, Lance Dunham and his wife, Lorraine, her sister, Gail Murphy and her husband, Brian, as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Special thanks to her entire Neuro-Oncology team at Mass General Brigham in Boston and Waltham, MA for providing her care in the past two years.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 19th from 4pm to 7pm, at the Carrier Family Funeral Home, 38 Range Road,
Windham, NH 03087. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday, at 10am, with burial to follow at Pillsbury Cemetery in Londonderry, NH.
