Betty Jane Moore Coleman passed away peacefully on August 7th, 2025, at the age of 82 in
Katy, TX. She was born in 1942 in Llano, TX, and grew up in and around Llano, Lake Buchanan, Lampasas, and Burnet, TX.
Betty, a graduate of Burnet High School, received her Bachelor of Science degree from Southwest Texas State University, where she met the love of her life, Mondel James Coleman, who she married in 1964. The two taught together in McCamey, TX, where Betty was an English teacher at McCamey Junior High School. While there, she earned a Master of Education from UT El Paso. Together the two of them took classes at many colleges around Texas, including Sul Ross and Sam Houston State University.
Around 1970, Betty and her husband Mondel settled in Katy, where they raised their family. While in Katy, Betty served first as a guidance counselor at Royal High School in Brookshire, where she provided both counseling services and college/career advice to hundreds of high school students, desiring for each one to be successful. Betty later provided counseling services to elementary and intermediate school students, helping them to learn to navigate social situations and manage/express their feelings. She also administered testing for Royal ISD's gifted and talented program. Being an avid listener with a caring heart and lots of wisdom, she made a perfect counselor for students of all ages.
Betty was not only a continuous learner and dedicated educator, but also an avid reader of both fiction and non-fiction, loving novels, news articles, and researching all kinds of topics. She would often clip out news articles or make copies of research to send to those she loved, when she thought the information would be helpful to them. Betty also enjoyed traveling and would plan trips each summer with her husband and children, visiting much of the United States.
A compassionate, kind, thoughtful, warm and loving soul, Betty's legacy will live on in the hearts and lives of her family and friends. Betty leaves behind her loving and doting husband of 61 years, Mondel James Coleman, her daughter DeLynn Coleman Bostick and her husband Jeff, and her son Bryce J'Del Coleman, as well as her grandchildren Benjamin and Sarah Bostick. She also leaves behind three nieces: Natalee Nolen Somerfeld, Amy Nolen Butler, and Julie Nolen, as well as many cousins.
