Betty Jean Howell

Betty Jean Howell, 85, of Carmi, IL passed away Sunday, January 1, 2023 at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado. She was born July 19, 1937 in Mt. Vernon, IN to Stella and Merrel Bell. She worked as a waitress for several years, and retired early with health issues. She enjoyed playing on her tablet and spending time with all her family and friends.
Betty is survived by one daughter, Debbie Sullivan and son son, James M. Howell, Jr.; four granddaughters, Samantha Webb (Josh), Kristina Sullivan, Amber Sullivan (Brett and Tom) and Crystal Slone (Scott); two grandsons, Shawn Peyton (Barbie) and Michael Sullivan; several great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Webb, Brody and Easton Sullivan, Gavin Peyton, Mayci Edwards, Chase Peyton, Autumn Peyton, Peyton Edwards, Mitchell Edwards and Serenity Murdoch.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Stella and Merrel Bell, her husband, James Howell, daughter, Donna Peyton, son, John Howell and her brothers and sisters, Bob Bell, Roy Bell, Ralph Bell, Lois Feldman, Charlotte Cross and Mary Lou York.
A service to celebrate the life of Betty Jean Howell, 85, of Carmi will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, January 8, 2023 at Stendeback Funeral Home in Carmi. Friends and family may gather on Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. at Stendeback Funeral Home. Private burial will be in Maple Ridge Cemetery in Carmi. in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Betty's memory to The Muscular Dystrophy Association or the American Cancer Society and will be accepted at Stendeback Funeral Home.
