Betty was born on November 12, 1940 in Downsville and passed away on June 3, 2022 in Ruston. She graduated high school from Downsville High School and received a Masters plus 30 in education from Louisiana Tech University. Betty enjoyed a long career as a teacher and an instructional coordinator in Bienville and Lincoln Parishes. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Ruston. Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, George Layton Leachman and her parents, Victor Averitte and Louise Roberts Averitte.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Lisa Leachman Hinman and husband Mike of Covington, Louisiana; son, Terry Van Leachman and wife Shelly of Dallas, Texas; three grandchildren, Melissa Hinman White and husband Roy, Philip Hinman, Layton Leachman; three great-grandchildren, Aylia Hinman Issa, Laken, Caden and Kyler and Veda-Rose White of Covington, Louisiana; sisters, Margerite Averitte Hammons and husband Jerry, Connie Averitte Sullivan-Guillot; numerous nieces, nephews and other cherished family and friends.

I am just hearing about Betty, and am so very sorry for yall's loss. Your Mom was really good friends with my Mother, Barbara Sanderson, and she worked with both of my parents. My Mom and Berty enjoyed some great cruise trips together! My sincere condolences to all of you.
