Betty Jane Gossom Lichlyter, of the Milton community, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2024, at the age of 89, in La Grange, Oldham County, Kentucky. Born on February 8, 1935, in Milton, Trimble County, Kentucky, Betty was the daughter of Kenneth and Gladys M. Jones Burkhardt.

Betty dedicated many years of her life to serving the Milton Elementary School as a custodian, where her commitment to cleanliness and care endeared her to students and faculty alike. A devoted member of the Mt. Byrd Christian Church, she actively participated in the Ladies Aid Missionary Society and taught Sunday School for many years, sharing her faith and wisdom with the younger generations.

In addition to her professional and community contributions, Betty had a rich personal life filled with hobbies and interests. She relished in sewing and crocheting, crafting numerous beautiful dresses throughout her life. Reading and cooking were among her favorite pastimes, and she was an enthusiastic fan of Elvis Presley and Gospel Music. Betty also had a passion for bowling, participating in a bowling league that brought her much joy. Most importantly, she cherished time spent with her family, nurturing and creating lasting memories.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Tanya L. (Steve) Gossom Nix of Milton, KY; two sons, James A. "Tony" (Cacky) Gossom of Crestwood, KY, and Reggie L. Gossom of Bedford, KY; sisters, Jackie S. Hudson and Nancy Jo Gaines, both of Milton, KY; a sister-in-law, Reva Burkhardt of Milton, KY; six grandchildren, Chris (Jan) Gossom of Madison, IN, Aaron Nix of Milton, KY, Ryan (Lindsay) Nix of Jeffersonville, IN, Laurie Nix (Brendon) Bump of Jeffersonville, IN, Catharine (Brad) Horner of Buckner, KY, and Sarah (Brian) Stucker of Crestwood, KY; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by parents, Kenneth Burkhardt and Gladys M. Jones Burkhardt, her first husband of 35 years, James G. Gossom; her second husband of 20 years, Floyd Lichlyter; her sister, Agnes Joyce; her brother, Kenneth Eugene Burkhardt.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Mt. Byrd Christian Church, located at 92 Peck Pike Rd, Milton, KY. This will be followed by a funeral service starting at 1:00 PM on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at the church.  Interment will take place in the Moffett Cemetery in Milton, KY

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Gifts may be given to the Mt. Byrd Christian Church or the Alzheimer's Research or Dementia Association in the care of the funeral home.

Betty Jane Lichlyter’s legacy is one of love, dedication, and compassion. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
