Betty Wellnitz's Obituary
Betty Wellnitz, 94, of Fond du Lac, went to meet the Lord and reunite with her beloved husband Bob in the early morning of August 24th. Betty resided at Crossroads Nursing Home and was with her family at her side when she passed. Betty was the eldest daughter of Arvilla and Verner Wolf of Oakfield.
Betty was born at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac on March 26, 1930. She attended Rockriver & Lowell Grade School. Betty graduated in 1948 from Waupun High School. Betty worked at Infant Socks Factory before she met, dated, and fell in love with her future husband, Robert (Bob) Wellnitz. They were married in 1951 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Fond du Lac. Together they raised five children: Mary Ann, Leona, Robert, Jr., Michael, and James. Betty attended St. John's Church in Byron throughout their married life. She was an active member of Byron Altar Society and remained a member of the church throughout her life. Over time, Betty's faith in the Lord grew and sustained her when her youngest son died and later, her husband.
During the years that Bob and Betty farmed they were active members of NFO, the Farm Bureau, and 4-H. Betty was recognized for her hard work and dedication in their farm operation when during the 1990's she received 'Farm Wife of the Year.'
Betty enjoyed needle point, vegetable gardening, crafts, flower gardens, and sewing. Over the course of raising their children, she made many of their clothes. Bob and Betty also enjoyed playing cards with friends and relatives. For numerous years, the Wellnitz Fly Field, located on the Wellnitz Farm, brought great joy, pride, and entertainment to both Betty and Bob.
For the past two years at Crossroads, Betty had numerous friends and had fun in the activity center playing Bingo, Dice, and Uno. Up until her death, Betty's card game of preference was 'Rummy,' and she enjoyed beating her son-in-law Kim in the game as often as possible.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Robert (Bob); their son, James (Jim); her brother, Roger, and her parents. Those Betty leaves behind to cherish her memory include her four children: Mary Ann (Armond Pahnke),Leona (Kim Havens), Robert, Jr., and Michael (Cindy). Her grandchildren: Lisa Huebner (Jim), Anthony Pahnke (Marlene), Tanner Havens (Danni), Cory Moss, and Courtney Moss (Adam). Also, her Great Grandchildren: Gannon Huebner; Lisa Pahnke Rojas, and Maryeva Pahnke Rojas. Her sister, Beverly Immel who was by her side at her passing. Many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
The family wants to thank the many outstanding professional caregivers from both Crossroads and SSM St. Agnes Hospital. Their kind and thoughtful care truly made a positive difference and is greatly appreciated. The family also wants to thank the wonderful compassionate staff at Lakeland who also worked in unity with Betty and her family. A special thank you is extended to Wendy Pelletier, Doris Morgan and Kathy Meyn, who are more than friends, they are family, also.
Twohig Funeral Home in Fond du Lac will be working with the family. Betty will be shown at St. John's Catholic Church-Bryon (W5882 Church Road, Fond du Lac, WI 54937) and then laid to rest in their burial plot with her husband, Bob.
Visitation will be on Saturday, August 31 from 9:00 am- 10:30 am. At 10:45am eulogies will be shared. Beginning at 11:00 am, there will be a Mass at St. John's Catholic Church (Sons of Zebedee).
