Beverly Jean (Anderson) Porter, 91, long time resident of Ankeny, Iowa, passed away on Friday, December 3rd, 2021, at the Methodist Hospital, Des Moines. Funeral services will be 10 am Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Iles Westover Funeral Home where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery.
Beverly was born to Ruth (Carlson) and Vernon Anderson in Boone County on Thursday, December 26, 1929. She was the third child in the family joining her older sisters Darlene (4) and Doris (2). Bev's family lived in Bayard, and her brother Richard (1935) and sister Janet (1938) were added to the family becoming a family of seven.
Beverly attended Bayard up through junior high, and graduated from North High School in Des Moines, IA
Beverly and her siblings had many good times during the summers spending a couple of weeks with their grandparents on the farm. They rode horses with their cousins, helped with chores and enjoyed going to church activities. Their grandmother Anderson, a school teacher before she married, was always teaching them to cook and do things for themselves.
Beverly met the love of her life, Perry Porter, and they were married on 14 May 1949 in Des Moines. Beverly continued working following marriage and worked as an administrative assistant for Becker Roofing in Des Moines and later joined Farmers Mutual Hail Insurance Company of Iowa. She and Perry purchased a NAPA distributorship in Estherville, IA., in the 1970's. Following Perry's untimely death, Beverly moved to Ankeny and worked in the office at the NAPA warehouse in Des Moines with close friends Dyle and June Denison, and later at a Casey's convenience store. She also volunteered at a Hospice resale store.
Beverly and Perry never had any children of their own, but demonstrated an unbelievable love for members of their extended family including nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She loved traveling and made many trips with Perry. Following his death, she often traveled with and visited family members and was always a joy to be around. In addition, she enjoyed dancing and was quite good. She always provided exceptional dishes for the many family gatherings she attended or hosted. She will be severely missed by all who knew her.
Beverly is survived by her sister, Janet Glessner of Mesa, AZ; brother, Richard (and Joan) Anderson of West Des Moines, IA; along with several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and other members of her extended family.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Vernon and Ruth Anderson; her husband, Perry Porter; sister and brother-in-law, Darlene and Clyde Leonard; sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Joe Newell, and brother-in-law, Jack Glessner.
Memorial contributions may be made to Every Step Hospice. Online condolences are welcome at www.IlesCares.com.
