Beverly Ann Porter-Reese was born on November 11, 1948 in Galveston, Texas to the proud parents of Cleveland and Mercidee Porter. Beverly was the oldest of five children.
Beverly's family came to Los Angeles, California in 1956. She attended Raymond Avenue Elementary Farm School which included chickens, goats, vegetables, and flower gardens. She loved going to her big school and later, she joined the Girl Scouts. Her sister was so proud of her. Beverly never had any trouble making friends and especially loved to play tether ball.
In 1962, she attended Horace Mann Jr. High School and along with her friends she would walk to campus. She always enjoyed singing, music and dancing which she demonstrated all the time.
In 1965, Beverly attended George Washington High School and enjoyed it to the fullest along with her fellow "Generals" and "Marthas". After graduating in 1967, she attended Trade Tech College and received a degree in Fashion Design. She was always very creative and had a stylish flair that showed in her everyday life.
Beverly began another path by working for the County of Los Angeles, where she promoted from Clerk Typist to Senior Civil Engineer with the mentoring of her step-father Theodore "Michael" Reynolds who taught her how to use a slide rule.
In 1969, Beverly married Thomas Reese and she gave birth to a beautiful daughter named Pamelyn Drenee Reese on March 14th, 1970.
Beverly and her family were always very active in church throughout her life and she was always a member of a choir. Her musical talents led her to perform with the Pentecostal Community Choir. She also performed as a backup singer for Reba McEntire and Patty LaBelle. She also worked with the Jerry Lewis Telethons and performed in Italy for Pope John Paul II.
Beverly loved going to concerts, musicals, and the theatre. She also traveled the world and visited Nigeria, South Africa, Egypt, the Bahamas, Italy, Amsterdam and other countries in Europe.
Beverly was a kind person with a good heart. She was an excellent listener and would come to the aid of friends in need of her support.
Around the summer of 2021 when she began showing signs of dementia, her sister Patricia moved in to care for her. Pat brought Beverly to LA periodically to visit friends and family. She was always happy and enjoyed listening to the old stories she was told.
On August 1st, 2025 after a long and hard battle, Beverly transitioned into eternal rest. Beverly was preceded in death by her daughter Pamelyn Reese. She leaves to hold dear her memory siblings Robert Porter, Patricia Clark-Theriot, Cornell Jones, Cynthia Jones, and a host of family members and friends.
