Bill George Opell, age 94, lifelong resident of Catlettsburg, KY, passed away gently at his residence surrounded by family on March 28th, 2024.
Bill was born in the early days of summer on August 6th, 1929. He was the blessing of the late James Perry and Armina Moore Opell. Bill was good at working the land and made his living farming and raising animals. He was the founder of his own meat market, Opell Meats.
He leaves behind his loving children Bill George Opell Jr. (Earlene), Linda Opell Shelton, James D. Opell, Lola Opell Esenbock (Steve), and Virginia Lynn Opell, all of Catlettsburg, KY, 10 precious grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister Sarah Jane Pace of Smyrna, Tn, three sisters-in-law Carol Opell of Catlettsburg, KY, Anita Harris of Mt. Airy, NC, and Gloriana Opell of Catlettsburg, KY, and many extended family members and friends.
In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Waletta Rucker Opell, one daughter Armina Kim Opell, son-in-law Randy Shelton, three brothers James P. Opell Jr., Admiral Dewey Opell, and Gearold Ray Opell, sisters Dora Catherine Nunley and Laura Virginia Carroll, sisters -in-law Betty Opell Loretta Land (Bill), Marcella Woods (Tom), and Barbara Vamplew, and brothers-in-law Bob Nunley and Dewey Carroll.
A funeral service to honor the life of Bill will be held on Tuesday April 2, 2024 at Neal Funeral Home located at 2409 Center Street in Catlettsburg, KY, beginning at 11am with Pastor Kyle Vanover officiating. Visitation for friends and family will be held at the funeral home on Monday, April1, 2024, from 6pm to 8pm. Bill will be laid to rest at Ruben Moore Cemetery following the service on Tuesday.
