Billie Ray Combs, born June 4, 1940, to Arlie Arthur Combs and Lillie Mildred (Hatfield) Combs in Bunceton, Missouri, and left his worldly home September 18, 2022, after a short battle with Liver cancer. Billie joined the U.S. Marine Corps in September 1958 and received an honorable discharge in September 1963.
He married our mother, Delana Hart, on October 6, 1961, and they remained married until her death in January 2007.
Billie spent many years traveling the United States as a truck driver. He was employed with Campbell 66 in Springfield, MO, and Yellow Freight in Baxter Springs, KS and Chicago, IL, retiring in 2000.
His passing will affect each of our lives dramatically. He has missed our mother tremendously since her passing and knowing they will finally be reunited gives us all great peace.
He is proceeded in death by his parents; one brother, Paul Eugene Combs; and our mother, Delana Combs. Billie is survived by three sons, James Eugene Combs of Lebanon, MO, Joseph Arthur Combs and wife Jeanne of Springfield, MO, John Combs and wife Donna of Springfield, MO, and one daughter, Vanessa Ayers and husband David of Fayetteville, AR; grandchildren, Beau, Billie, Matthew, Bobbie Jo, Katherine, Theresa, James and Damita; great-grandchildren, Miles, Hayden, Marley, Harrison, Remington, Kadyn, Layne, Remington, Theresa, Brittany and Zacara; and a brother, Gerald Combs and wife Collen of Republic, MO; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at Walnut Lawn Funeral Home, in Springfield. Funeral Services will immediately follow at 12:00 p.m., in the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow at 1:00 p.m., at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, MO.
His care has been entrusted to Walnut Lawn Funeral Home, Ltd. DeGraffenreid-Wood Crematory.
