Obituary published on Legacy.com by Burden's Funeral Home - Griffin from Oct. 3 to Oct. 4, 2025.
Mr. Billy Anthony Dothard was born on August 27, 1959, in Anniston, Alabama, to Rev. Elvin Dothard and Mary Dothard. He is survived by his loving wife, Annette Rush, and four children. At an early age, Billy accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and became a member of New Prospect Baptist Church.
As the child of a military family, Billy attended numerous schools across the United States and in Germany. Despite the frequent moves, he completed his high school education in Anniston, Alabama. Shortly after graduation, he proudly enlisted in the United States Army, where he served with distinction in the 82nd Airborne Division. During his five years of honorable service, Billy earned numerous medals and ribbons in recognition of his dedication and commitment to his country.
Billy was known for his unwavering work ethic, entrepreneurial drive, and fearless pursuit of new opportunities. His professional journey was as diverse as it was inspiring - from working as a DJ in Alaska to becoming a successful business owner. When he developed an interest in air conditioning repair, he took charge of his future and enrolled at Southern Crescent College in
Griffin, Georgia. There, he earned a Technical Certificate in Air Conditioning Electrical Technology and an Associate of Applied Science degree in Air Conditioning Technology. He went on to work as an HVAC Installer at Estes Heating and Air for 10 years. True to his nature, Billy embraced yet another career shift and transitioned into public transportation. He was hired by MARTA as a bus driver, where he served with dedication for over a decade until his retirement. Billy never let life dictate his path - he made his own choices and followed them with purpose and conviction.
Billy met the love of his life, Ms. Annette Rush, and the two joined in holy matrimony in Anniston, Alabama, and were married for approximately 35 years. Their union was blessed with one child and three beloved bonus children.
In his leisure time, Billy enjoyed gardening, watching sports, and spending quality time with his grandchildren. However, what brought him the greatest joy was simply riding around with his devoted wife by his side.
Billy's greatest trait was undoubtedly his kind and generous spirit. As a family, we all agree - if you ever needed help, Billy was always there, no questions asked. Each of us has a story about a time he came to the rescue, often without hesitation and always with a willing heart. His absence leaves us deeply saddened and surprised, as it's hard to imagine life without his steady presence. Billy brought so much joy and happiness to his family and friends, and his passing will leave a profound and lasting void in all of our lives.
Billy faced his brief illness just as he lived his life - with courage, strength, and unwavering faith in God. On Friday, September 26, 2025, Mr. Billy Anthony Dothard peacefully answered his final call and was released from all sickness and pain.
